NGO: Beijing Must Stop Repatriation of NK Refugees

A Christian nongovernmental organization aimed at helping North Koreans who escape from the North held a rally outside the Chinese embassy in Seoul on Friday, demanding that Beijing put a stop to the forced repatriation of North Korean refugees.

The NGO said up to 300 North Korean refugees per week are arrested by Chinese officials and forced to return to North Korea. The group demanded that the refugees be allowed to go to South Korea another country of their choosing.

In addition, the organization asked the Chinese government to prevent crimes against the refugees --- including forced labor and human trafficking --- and to provide educational and medical services to children of refugees from a humanitarian standpoint.

The NGO will deliver its demands through the Chinese embassy in a letter to Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, who is currently visiting South Korea.
