Gaeseong Biz Complex to Get Fire Station

South Korea will open a fire station at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea and provide five fire engines.

A South Korean official says both sides agreed to have Seoul begin planning the provision of five more fire trucks to the complex to raise the number to eight. A makeshift container being used as a fire station will be replaced with a proper building.

The official says more than half of the South Korean entities operating in the complex are textile and sewing firms vulnerable to fire.

The number of firefighting staff will also be raised after the permanent fire station is opened.

Seoul approved late last month the budget for the project at more than five billion won, or four-point-three billion U.S. dollars.
