'NK Showed Interest in Biz Park Management'

North Korean representatives of an inter-Korean team that recently wrapped up joint tours of industrial complexes in China and Vietnam reportedly showed much interest in the management and operations of the facilities.

Kim Young-tak, who led the South Korean team, said in his briefing of the tours that while at the complexes, the North’s delegation seemed highly interested in areas related to management and operations arrangements, workers’ pay and tax benefits.

Kim said the South’s representatives, however, focused on the level of infrastructure and the incentives used to attract investment, including tax benefits, entry clearance, customs-related systems, workers’ conditions and so on.

Kim said that the tours, which lasted eleven days from December 12th to the 22nd, provided both Koreas with a number of ideas on how to more stably manage the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North.

To that end, he said that the North and the South have agreed to hold frequent working-level discussions.
