Gov't to Use W26 Bln to Help the Needy in NK

The government will use 26 billion won in inter-Korean cooperation funds for projects led by international organizations and private agencies looking to support the vulnerable in North Korean society.

Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters Monday that Seoul plans to give 13 million dollars to the World Health Organization and four million dollars to UNICEF for the two agencies’ projects that deal with helping children in the North.

The government will also, through private organizations, use three-and-a-half billion won in funds to help others that are vulnerable in North Korea. An additional two billion won will be used to assist the North in its reforestation efforts.

Including these assistance projects, South Korea will have provided the North with humanitarian aid totaling 50 billion won this year.
