World Cup tickets remain unsold

Written: 2002-05-16 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

With just 15 days before the World Cup opener in Seoul, organizers say 250 thousand tickets still remain unsold ... raising fears of empty stadiums during less attractive games. For 32 matches in South Korea, FIFA hoped to sell one and a half million tickets ... about half each to domestic fans and fans coming from overseas. Another one and a half million tickets were allotted for 32 matches in the co-host country of Japan. The games for which tickets were sold out are one between Brazil and China on June eighth and between Brazil and Costa Rica on June 13th as of Wednesday. Organizers are trying to overcome delays in ticket distribution caused by technical problems at the British company Byrom, which prints the tickets. Ticket distribution had originally been due to start last Sunday, but has now been put off until next Monday.
