NK Escapees Like S.Korean Pop Music

A survey shows that a South Korean pop song tops the list of songs favored by North Korean escapees.

According to Radio Free Asia, a survey of 50 North Korean escapees showed that South Korean female singer Roh Sa-yeon’s “Mannam,” a song about the destined meeting of lovers, was the most preferred.

The North Korean song “Person Inscribed in the Heart” came in second, followed by the South Korean pop song “Emptiness” by Na Hoon-a.

The head of an organization of North Korean escapees told the U.S.-based broadcaster that the song “Person Inscribed in the Heart” was originally dedicated to North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

RFA said that young North Korean escapees have a liking for hip-hop or rock songs and South Korean idol groups such as the Wonder Girls.
