KBS President: Changes Await Nation's Broadcaster

KBS held a ceremony Monday to mark the new year and to announce the 2010 goals for the nation’s public broadcaster.

At the ceremony, which was attended by both labor and management, KBS President Kim In-kyu stressed the need for KBS to emerge as a leading, global broadcasting firm in 2010 by seizing opportunities in a broadcasting environment that is set to face various changes this year.

Kim cited that competition over new media, including IPTV and DMB, is likely to heat up and that newspapers are expected to take a more active part in the broadcasting arena.

Kim also said that as a public broadcaster, KBS will work to introduce a legal mechanism to establish a free, terrestrial digital platform.

Kim added that he plans to revamp KBS in line with changes in the broadcasting environment once consulting results on the firm’s overall management are disclosed.
