A Japanese daily says a university will open in Pyongyang this April as part of a joint inter-Korean project.
The Asahi Shimbun quoted Kim Chin-kyung, president of the Yanbian University of Science and Technology in northeastern China, as saying the project is being led by South Korea's Northeast Asia Foundation for Education and Culture and North Korean educational authorities.
The paper said the school, named “Pyongyang University of Science and Technology,” will have 17 buildings on a one-square-kilometer site in the heart of the North Korean capital. The school will admit 200 undergraduate and 100 graduate students in its inaugural year.
Asahi said the tuition-free university will have many classes taught in English by 13 European and South Korean professors.
