The government will send two North Korean fishermen back to the North via the truce village of Panmunjeom on Wednesday.

An official at the Unification Ministry said Seoul will hand over the fishermen on humanitarian grounds, citing that the two men expressed wishes to return to their homeland during investigations by the South Korean government.

Earlier on Sunday, the South Korean Coast Guard found a North Korean ship carrying the two men near the Dokdo islets in the East Sea. The small wooden boat had no engine and was drifting north of the easternmost islets of Dokdo in South Korean waters.
