The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its April Situation Bulletin that the UNICEF and WFP are working with the North Korean government to conduct a joint nutrition survey of children slated for September. The survey will be the second of its kind, following one in 1998, and was agrs agreed during then-WFP Executive Director Catherine Bertini's visit to Pyongyang last August, according to the OCHA. Meanwhile, UNICEF staff have undertaken field visits so far this year to hospitals and clinics, children's institutions, primary schools, nurseries and other project sites in eight North Korean provinces, the OCHA said, adding that the remaining four provinces will be visited this month. The tests confirmed acute respiratory infections (pneumonia) and diarrhea are still the most common illnesses in children, according to the U,N. agency.
