KCC Seeks Boom in Internet Industry

The head of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) says the nation needs to actively boost the Internet industry at a time when the Internet market is facing a critical turning point.

In a meeting with executives of domestic Internet firms and chiefs of related associations on Monday, Choi Si-jung said that with the recent popularity of smart phones, the center of Internet business is shifting to wireless Internet services and that open and convergence business models are emerging.

Choi pointed out the lack of innovative business models or startups in the area in Korea, noting that various wireless Internet services are hitting the market in other countries.

He pledged the government's active support for domestic companies seeking to advance to overseas markets.
