South and North Korea began a two-day meeting on Tuesday to evaluate their joint offshore survey of industrial parks last month.
During the meeting, the two sides will discuss the results of their joint survey of Chinese and Vietnamese industrial parks and will exchange opinions on the development of the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the North.
A total of nine people are taking part from the South Korean side, including Kim Young-tak, chief South Korean delegate to the talks in Gaeseong.
Ten members are attending from the North, including Pak Chol-su, vice chief of the Central Guidance Bureau for Special Zone Development, which oversees management issues at the joint park.
Kim said the fact that both sides are meeting for a candid dialogue about the development of Gaeseong is meaningful in and of itself.
Hopes are high that the meeting can be used to gauge North Korea’s willingness to engage in future dialogue on other inter-Korean issues.
