'100,000 Korean Cultural Properties Held Abroad'

A government institute says that over 100-thousand Korean cultural properties are located abroad.

The National Cultural Properties Research Institute has compiled a list of Korean cultural assets and says that over 107-thousand items are scattered throughout 18 countries.

The total is 30-thousand more than the previous estimates made.

The institute says it discovered the new relics through surveys of documents at foreign libraries and museums.

The majority, some 61-thousand, are in Japan. The U.S. had the second most, some 27-thousand.

The institute says it will continue to work to locate Korean assets held overseas.
