South and North Korea have failed to agree on a second round of talks to discuss ways to develop the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.
The two sides met from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday as part of discussions about their joint offshore inspection of industrial parks last month.
The Unification Ministry in Seoul said that during the talks, the South proposed holding another working-level meeting to address the issues of cross-border passage, communications, and customs clearance as well as the matter of accommodations for North Korean workers at the Gaeseong business park.
However, the two sides failed to reach an agreement on further talks after the North sought to include its call to raise the wages of North Korean workers at the industrial complex in the agenda for the working-level meeting.
The Unification Ministry noted, however, that during the two-day talks, the two Koreas held sincere, businesslike discussions on ways to improve the operations of the Gaeseong industrial complex.
The South’s delegation returned home on Thursday morning.
