A project to teach kindergartners and elementary school students major subjects in Korean will begin in Australia next week.

The New South Wales' Department of Education and Training said Friday that Campsie Public School, which is located in a region with a large Korean community, will begin teaching major subjects in Korean to kindergartners and first graders starting this semester.

The school said that 19 kindergartners and ten first graders will be taught all subjects, except English and math, in Korean for at least 90 minutes each day.

The school will be the first in the world to have classes that teach major subjects in Korean at the primary school level.

Thirty percent of the students who have applied for the classes are second-generation Korean Australians.
