S.Korea Notifies NK of Corn Aid Procedures

South Korea has notified North Korea of the procedures it will use to send corn aid to the North.

A Unification Ministry spokesman said Monday that the notification was made during discussions between liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

According to the spokesman, the South told the North that the corn will arrive in North Korea via a maritime route and that at least 40 days will be needed to prepare the corn aid for shipment.

Seoul will provide Pyongyang with a more detailed schedule of the corn delivery soon, including the exact date on which the shipment will depart for North Korea.

The two Koreas will continue related working-level discussions through liaison officers.

North Korea accepted on January 15th South Korea’s offer to send ten-thousand tons of corn aid.
