South Korean Ambassador to Japan Cho Se-hyung indicated his hopefulness Friday that the upcoming World Cup games would provide an opportunity for the two co-hosts to remove the barrier between them. In an interview with the Japanese daily Asahi Shimbun, Ambassador Cho said the soccer tournament should induce the two countries to expand social and cultural exchanges to resolve sensitive issues, such as understanding each other's history. He suggested that one way of promoting the exchanges would be to continue to allow no-visa entry for South Korean tourists to Japan after the World Cup games.
