A collaborative online Korean dictionary akin to Wikipedia will be compiled in South Korea.

The National Institute of the Korean Language Wednesday announced a plan to compile the dictionary containing one million entries by 2012.

The Standard Korean Dictionary currently in use has approximately 500-thousand words.

The institute said the completed dictionary will be available on the Internet in late 2012, and that citizens will be permitted to edit or add entries to the open dictionary.
