President Kim emphasizes safety above all, in hosting the World Cup soccer finals

A Cheong Wa Dae spokesman told the press on Monday that President Kim Dae-jung instructed the cabinet to do their best in drawing up safety measures for the successful hosting of the World Cup soccer finals to begin Friday for a month's run. Chairing the cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae in the morning, Kim was quoted as saying, "Hosting the world sporting event safely is a success." Vice Cheong Wae Dae spokesman, Kim Sung-jin said....President Kim stressed a successful hosting of the World Cup would lead to an increase in export, foreigners' investment in the country and tourism profits. During the cabinet meeting, the president encouraged the Korean soccer team, saying it showed its much improved skills during the Sunday friendly with the French soccer team, the strongest in the world. Kim also said the Korean people are encouraged by the opportunity to host and that a chance for national prosperity would surely come should the World Cup be hosted successfully.
