TVXQ Single Posts Record Sales in Japan

The new single from the boy band “Dong Bang Shin Gi,” otherwise known as TVXQ, has set a record in Japan for weekly album sales by a foreign artist.

Oricon news and Sankei Sports say the Korean male quintet's 29th single "Break Out," released January 27th, sold 256-thousand albums in the first week in Japan to top the Oricon Weekly Charts.

The previous record was Elton John's "Candle in the Wind," released in September 1997 to commemorate Princess Diana's passing, which sold 184-thousand copies.

TVXQ has also topped the Oricon Weekly Single Chart for the seventh time, also the highest of any foreign singer in Japanese chart history.
