NK Designates More Firing Zones in Yellow Sea

North Korea has declared two additional areas in the Yellow Sea as maritime firing zones one week after the North’s military fired hundreds of artillery shells into areas near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) maritime border with South Korea.

The Defense Ministry said North Korea designated as firing zones the two areas east of South Korea’s Baengnyeong and Daecheong islands near the NLL. The temporary designation, lasting for four days, will go into effect on Friday.

The ministry made the report in a Wednesday meeting between government agencies and the ruling Grand National Party.

Previously, North Korea designated areas near the inter-Korean maritime border as no-sail zones, effective from January 25th to the 29th.

The North then designated four more areas in the Yellow Sea and one area in the East Sea as firing zones, effective from January 31st to February second.
