Talks on Resuming Tours to Open Monday

Working-level inter-Korean talks on the resumption of South Korean tours to Mount Geumgang and Gaeseong will open Monday at the joint industrial industrial complex in North Korea.

This is the first official meeting of its kind in 21 months. Tours to the scenic mountain were halted after a South Korean tourist was shot dead in August 2008.

Both sides will apparently discuss three agenda items in the upcoming talks: finding the truth behind the fatal shooting; the North's pledge not to allow a similar incident to recur; and a guarantee of tourist safety.

The North says the tourist was shot because she strayed into a restricted military zone at the Mount Geumgang resort.

Seoul will send three working-level officials from the unification, justice and tourism ministries.

The three-member North Korean delegation will be headed by an official from the Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.
