Christian Group Pushing for S-N Joint Prayer Meeting

A progressive Christian group says it will push for an inter-Korean prayer meeting in Pyongyang this June.

The National Council of Christian Churches in Korea (NCCK) said Tuesday that approximately 300 Christians in South Korea are requesting government permission to visit North Korea.

The council said it plans to fly the group to Pyongyang in late June on a chartered flight.

The group plans to hold a joint prayer meeting with the North for the implementation of the June 15th inter-Korean joint declaration and the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.

The council says it has yet to receive permission from Seoul for the visit.

The NCCK and the North’s Korea Christian Fellowship (KCF) have held six joint prayer sessions at Mount Geumgang and in Pyongyang since 2005. In 2009, the event was suspended due to the deterioration of inter-Korean relations.
