Gov't to Develop 10 Ecotourism Areas

The government has announced plans to turn ten areas in the nation into ecotourism zones.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Environment Ministry have selected ten well-preserved regions for the project.

The areas include the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ); the Upo Wetland in Changnyeong, South Gyeongsang Province; Hwacheon in Gangwon Province; the Geomun Oreum volcanic zones in Jeju Island; and the Sinduri coastal sand dunes.

The government will renovate facilities in the ten regions and will create exploration trails.

Overall, 30 billion won, or 26 million U.S. dollars, will be invested over the next five years to develop tourist programs in the areas.
