UM: Koreas Must Have Open Discussions on Nuke Issue

Unification Minister Hyun In-taek says preparing for the two Koreas' future through inter-Korean talks without discussing the nuclear issue is impossible.

Hyun told a seminar held at the National Assembly Wednesday that the North Korean nuclear issue continues to make Korea’s future insecure.

Hyun said the two Koreas must hold open discussions on the nuclear issue, adding that a new channel of cooperation will be opened when South and North Korea pass the obstacle that is the North Korean nuclear program.

He said that the South Korean government intends to create a positive environment in which progress can be made and that such progress will begin with sincere inter-Korean dialogue.
