Colonial-Era Relics from Seoul Temple Listed as Assets

The Cultural Heritage Administration says the colonial-era artifacts found during the renovation of a structure at Jingwan Temple in Seoul last year have been registered as cultural assets.

The relics include a Japanese flag with the image of the Korean flag drawn on top and some 20 newspapers that the administration says may shed new light on the Korean independence movement.

The relics are believed to have been hidden there by a Buddhist priest who fought for Korean independence while he was staying at the temple in 1919.

The flag and newspapers will be on display at the Seoul Museum of History from Thursday to March 14th.
