The 47th Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) will be held in Seoul from Oct. first through 4th. The 47th APFF, jointly organized by the Korean Film Producers' Association, Federation of Theatre Owners in Korea and Seoul Theater Association, will have two new awards for juvenile experimental films, in addition to the 18 existing awards and three special awards. Seoul last hosted the APFF in 1992. In 1997, Jeju Island also hosted the Asian-Pacific film festival. At last year's APFF in Jakarta, Indonesia, Korea won awards for best actor (Yoo Oh-sung in "Friend"), best supporting actor (Jang Dong-gun in "Friend") and best editing (Kim Hyun in "Musa") as well as a special jury award for promising director (Im Jong-jae in "My Beautiful Days"). The APFF was first launched in 1954 by filmmakers from Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong to maintain the identity of Asian films in defiance of U.S. and European movies. Since then, the film festival has been held annually under the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), alternating its award ceremonies among its member countries. The FPA currently has 18 member countries or cities in Asia-Pacific regions including Kuwait, Sydney (Australia), Moscow (Russia) and Taipei (Taiwan).
