SK Civic Body Visits N. Korea

North Korea says members of a South Korean committee for implementing the June 2000 joint inter-Korean declaration arrived in Pyongyang Saturday.

Committee members will attend a meeting with their North Korean and overseas counterparts.

The North's Korean Central News Agency also says committee members from abroad also came to the North.

A committee source says with this year being the tenth anniversary of the 2000 declaration, the meeting will mainly discuss where and how to hold memorial events in June. He says other agenda items include the South-North joint committee operation and raising border exchanges.

The source says South Korea allowed the committee members' visit to the North amid heavy restrictions on private exchanges with the North, adding this will send a positive message to Pyongyang that Seoul does not entirely deny the joint declaration.
