Gov't Expands Budget to Prevent Online Game Addiction

The government will sharply expand its budget to block online game addiction.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Monday that it plans to earmark five billion won this year for programs aimed at preventing social problems stemming from game addiction.

The amount, some four-point-three million U.S. dollars, is about ten times larger than last year’s budget.

The funding will be used to introduce a time-limit system, counseling for game addicts and campaigns for the prevention of online game addiction.

The ministry will expand the scope of such campaigns to include not only teenagers but also adults and will conduct the campaigns jointly with the gaming industry.
