Two North Korean defectors reportedly entered the South Korean consulate in Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday morning.
The report, made by an organization that assists North Korean defectors called “Justice for North Korea,” says the defectors are seeking asylum in the U.S.
The defectors are reportedly North Korean loggers who were dispatched to Khabarovsk in Russia before escaping from their place of work in 2001 and picking up jobs as laborers.
According to the report, they recently met South Korean missionaries and began working as missionaries in Primorsky Krai, near North Korea.
The Foreign Ministry in Seoul said it has nothing to confirm in regards to the report.
Justice for North Korea says there are currently 40-thousand North Korean laborers in Russia. Some one-quarter of them have escaped from logging and construction sites and three thousand are seeking asylum in South Korea or the U.S.
