Pop Song Composer Dies at 80

Pop song composer Park Chun-seok has died after having suffered the effects of a stroke for 16 years. He was 80.

He debuted in 1948 and composed some 2,700 songs, which were sung by famous singers such as Lee Mi-ja, Na Hoon-a, Patti Kim and Moon Joo-ran.

His representative hits include "A Girl on Heuksan Island" and "The Rainy Honam Railway."

A relative says the composer passed away peacefully at 6 a.m. Sunday in his sleep.

A memorial altar has been set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul.
