Gov't to Provide W5.4 Bln to Gaeseong Mgt Committee

South Korea will provide five-point-for billion won worth of aid to the Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee this year.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said Monday that the government decided to supply the aid, taken from the inter-Korean Cooperation Fund, in order to fund the entry and exit of people at the inter-Korean industrial complex in North Korea and to operate a fire department at the complex.

Established in October 2004, the Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee is operated by the South but by law belongs to the North. The committee is charged with key administrative work related to the industrial complex, including assisting the park’s operations and managing its facilities.

The government plans to provide subsidies to the committee every year.

The committee had financed its operations through loans from the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund.
