South Korea and the United States battle to 1-1 Draw

South Korea and the United States drew 1-1 at Daegu World Cup Stadium on Monday.Both teams needed only to avoid defeat in their final fixtures to qualify from Group D. A first-half goal from Clint Mathis put the U.S. ahead before substitute Ahn Jung-hwan netted a headed equalizer in the 78th minute, a goal the home team richly deserved on the basis of their second half possession and commitment. Praising the conditioning of the Korean team Arena said Korea is a power team, whose fitness becomes a factor over the 90 minutes. He added that it was a difficult game to play in. Korea face Portugal on Friday and the U.S. play Poland in the final fixtures of Group D.
