The foreign ministry said Monday that third Secretary Chung Young-ho, 47, of the South Korean Embassy in Manila has been found dead. Chung was reported missing after he had a dinner with his friends in Manila Thursday evening. He is the first South Korean diplomat ever slain in the Philippines. The ministry said the Embassy officials and Chung's family identified Chung's remains in the afternoon, in the presence of the Philippine police. The ministry added that Chung's corpse was found, by a Quezon City pedestrian and carried to a nearby undertaker Friday morning. Philippine police believe that the diplomat was killed by a local drug ring, earlier that morning. The ministry asked the Manila government to take strengthened safety and security measures for South Korean diplomats and Korean residents to prevent the recurrence of violent crimes.
