South Korea’s Buddhist Jogye Order met with the North Korea Buddhists Federation in the North's border city of Gaeseong to discuss cooperative projects.
The two sides agreed to work on resuming South Koreans' pilgrimages to Singye Temple at Mount Geumgang.
They will also hold simultaneous ceremonies marking the Buddha’s birthday at Jogye Temple in South Korea and at Gwangbeop Temple in North Korea on May 21st.
The two Buddhist organizations also agreed to hold further talks to discuss details of an annual lotus lantern hanging and lighting ceremony set for early May at a North Korean temple.
The two groups also planned a joint ceremony in October at Singye Temple on North Korea’s Mount Geumgang to mark the third anniversary of the temple’s restoration.
The Singye Temple was destroyed during the Korean War. South and North Korea finished reconstructing the temple in October 2007 after three years of construction.
