Tokyo Nat'l Museum Housing 1,000 Korean Relics

Japan’s Tokyo National Museum is currently displaying over one-thousand Korean relics.

Included in one of the museum’s exhibition halls is a 40-centimeter-tall bronze incense burner that belonged to the Geumsan Buddhist Temple in North Jeolla Province during Korea’s ancient Goryeo Dynasty.

Korean archaeological experts believe the incense burner might have been looted during Japan’s invasion of Korea in the late 16th century.

The museum also has on display many Joseon Dynasty relics that belonged to the royal family, including an Ikseon-gwan hat that was worn by Joseon kings and crown princes as part of their daily attire.

Also included among the treasures are a helmet and a suit of armor.

Many experts are pushing a campaign to have the one-thousand relics returned to Korea.
