Domestic universities will be allowed to branch out overseas from next year.

The Education Ministry will ease regulations on domestic universities operating overseas branch campuses by early next year.

Under current law, universities are banned from using school assets to set up branch campuses abroad.

A ministry official says the government is revising the law to prevent problems that could occur if overseas transactions of school assets are allowed, such as embezzlement.
