Gov't Boosts Advisory for S.Koreans Going to NK

The Unification Ministry has announced it will urge South Korean workers who travel to North Korea to exercise added caution while in the communist state.

The ministry unveiled measures Monday to strengthen an advisory program for South Koreans set to visit the North’s regions of Gaeseong and Mount Geumgang.

The statement comes two days after the North urged the South in a notification to halt the scattering of anti-North Korean leaflets over the reclusive state.

Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung also told reporters that Seoul believes the distribution of propaganda leaflets by South Korean civic groups is not desirable for inter-Korean relations, recommending a halt to such activities. He added that the government would devise measures to address the matter if deemed necessary.

Earlier on Saturday, the North accused the South of scattering anti-North Korean leaflets, videos and DVDs over the communist state with balloons.

The statement warned that if the South fails to halt the leaflet dissemination, the North’s military will take “decisive measures.”
