S.Korea Rejects NK Demand to Attend Geumgang Asset Freeze

South Korea’s state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) has decided not to send officials to North Korea to witness the North’s implementation of procedures to freeze properties held by South Korea.

North Korea's Guidance Bureau for Comprehensive Development of Scenic Spots said in a notice sent to the South last Friday that it would freeze five tourism facilities held by the South Korean government and the KTO on Tuesday.

The North also demanded that South Korean officials concerned be on hand when the assets are frozen.

The South Korean government is rejecting the demand, saying that the measures violate inter-Korean agreements.
