NK Freezes S.Korean Gov’t Assets at Geumgang

North Korea on Tuesday followed through on its threat to freeze properties held by South Korea at the North’s Mount Geumgang resort.

The North demanded that the South Koreans concerned be on site by 9:40 a.m. Tuesday to witness the implementation of procedures to freeze the assets held by the South Korean government and the South’s state-run Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

However, the government and the KTO did not send their officials to North Korea, calling the North’s move a violation of inter-Korean agreements.

The North’ Guidance Bureau for Comprehensive Development of Scenic Spots announced Friday the plans to freeze the South Korean government-held assets.
