No Chinese Tourists Spotted at Mt. Geumgang

Tours to North Korea’s Mount Geumgang have yet to resume despite Pyongyang’s announcement that it would allow Chinese people to travel to the mountain resort starting April 12th.

An official from Hyundai Asan said Tuesday that no foreign tourists have been spotted touring the mountain resort of late.

Earlier on March 18th, the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee said in a message sent to the South that Pyongyang would launch tours to Mount Geumgang and Gaeseong with a new business partner from April if South Korea continues to suspend tourism programs to the North. In the statement, the North said it would allow tourists from abroad as well as from the North.

Following the North’s statement, several Chinese travel agencies have reportedly included Mount Geumgang in North Korea tour packages for Chinese tourists.
