Police forces were put on high alert throughout the country Tuesday, to control and protect the record 3.5 million people expected on the streets to cheer on the Korean World Cup team. Officials expect capacity cheering crowds at over 310 locations nationwide, in numbers far bigger than when Korea played its first stage matches. The crowd for the last match with Portugal on Friday was slightly below 2.8 million, but police expect at least 3.5 million this time, about one third of them at Gwanghwamun and City Hall plaza areas, in downtown Seoul.
