The World Food Programme (WFP) said in its recent emergency report that the North Korean government reduced distributions of daily food rations to 250 grams a person last month for all provinces. WFP said these daily rations are expected to continue at this level until the harvest of the early crops begin in June. With a new contribution of 100,000 tons promised by the U.S. government early this month, the desperate food pipeline situation in the North will be temporarily alleviated, the agency said. It said WFP remains concerned with the pipeline for the remainder of the year. A resource gap of nearly 150,000 tons remains, mainly with cereals. It added that further contributions are still required to cover needs during the latter part of the year.
