NK Leader's Trip to China Reported Imminent

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il's visit to China may be imminent.

Quoting multiple South Korean sources, KBS TV said Sunday that considerable preparations for Kim's visit were being made and that his visit would likely come as early as Monday.

The report also said signs of increased security activity have been detected around the North Korea-China Friendship Bridge over the Amnok River (Yalu River) and at the Dandong train station on the Chinese side of the Sino-North Korean border.

If Kim's reported trip comes to fruition, it comes amid heightened tension on the Korean Peninsula over the sinking of South Korea's “Cheonan” naval vessel.
