German computer chip maker Infineon Technologies has filed a complaint against South Korean rivals Samsung Electronics and Hynix .... accusing them of receiving government subsidies.

The trade complaint was filed in the European Union's executive Commission Thursday. The complaint claims that the alleged government subsidies allow the Korean chipmakers to lower prices of their computer memory chips exported to Europe.

Both Samsung and Hynix are denying the allegations.

In its complaint, Infineon asked the EU Commission to slap penalty tariffs on South Korean memory chips.

The E-U Commission will decide within 45 days whether to launch a formal investigation ... a process that usually takes seven months.
