Military Mulls Resumption of Loudspeaker Broadcasts at Border

The military is considering resuming loudspeaker broadcasts near the inter-Korean border aimed at North Korea if the North is found to be responsible for the sinking of South Korea’s “Cheonan” naval vessel.

A Joint Chiefs of Staff official says the broadcasts, which had been halted in June 2004 after running for decades, could be resumed as part of military measures if the North’s involvement is confirmed.

The move is in line with orders from Defense Minister Kim Tae-young.

But the official added that the idea is being reviewed and that no action plan has been made as of yet.
