U.S., N.K. agree to search for remains of U.S. soldiers

A diplomatic source in Seoul said Friday the United States and North Korea have agreed on the former's payment of US$3 million in return for the joint excavation of the remains of American soldiers killed in the North during the Korean War (1950-53) this year. The source said according to the agreement, the two nations will conduct tuct the excavation, the fifth of its kind, in Unsan, South Pyongan Province, and Jangjin, South Hamgyeong Province. The source said any remains exhumed are to be delivered to the United States via Pyongyang, and equipment and materials necessary for the excavation will be provided by the United States. The source said that the agreement was made during negotiations in Bangkok between June 7th thru 9th.
