Seoul City Steps up Efforts to Attract Foreign Tourists

The Seoul City government will hold conventions in China and Japan to attract more foreign tourists to the South Korean capital.

In China, the Seoul city government will host events targeting Chinese travel agents in Chongqing on Tuesday and in Shanghai on Thursday.

It will hold a marketing blitz in Tokyo and Fukuoka for four days starting May 26th.

The city government also plans to host a tourism expo in Seoul with 23 related government agencies.

Since 2008, the Seoul City government has adopted aggressive marketing strategies to woo more foreign tourists from Chinese-speaking countries, Japan, Europe, the U.S. and Southeast Asia.

Efforts are focused, in particular, on increasing the number of Chinese and Japanese tourists, who combine to make up nearly half of the foreign tourists who visit South Korea.
