Olympic gold medal-winning skater Kim Yu-na has been appointed a goodwill ambassador for efforts to promote Korean food abroad.

The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries named Kim the key figure in promotional efforts for Korean food during the International Food Industry Exhibition that opened in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, on Wednesday.

With the appointment, Kim will join pop singer “Rain” in serving as an ambassador for one year and will appear in videos promoting the globalization of Korean cuisine.

Kim said she hopes that more people around the world will have the opportunity to experience Korean food, adding that she will work to promote the taste and beauty of her nation’s cuisine.
