S.Korean Researchers Dispute NK’s Nuke Fusion Claim

South Korean researchers say North Korea’s claims of having developed nuclear fusion technology on their own appear to be exaggerated.

An official at South Korea’s National Fusion Research Institute says that upon a review of multiple sources, it is unlikely that North Korea is capable of developing energy using nuclear fusion technology. The official said North Korea’s most advanced research facilities are most likely on par with those of a university laboratory.

The institute has what is considered to be one of the world’s top nuclear fusion technologies --- KSTAR, which is a next-generation superconducting nuclear fusion research project that was used to produce plasma in 2008.
